RESPONSE TO "ANONYMOUS" COMPLAINT VIA FPPC: On February 23, 2024, I received an email from the FPPC (Federal Political Practices Commission) regarding an allegation against our campaign. The allegation stated we “Laundered campaign contributions. Contributions by intermediary or agent. Brochures and mailers were distributed but they were not accounted for in expenditures.” Basically, alleging we “colluded into hiding” an expense for a brochure to stay under our voluntary campaign expense commitment as stated in the new City charter amendment. Although this allegation was marked as anonymous, the candidate who made the claim did admit doing so to my husband, in front of our house, only after my husband told him we already knew it was him. He was fully convinced wrong doing had taken place and tried to justify his actions. For the record, I am not angry with him, only disappointed he felt the need to handle this in such a matter. The brochure in question is a local quarterly magazine, which features a “meet the neighbor” section. Two pages and the cover were dedicated to highlighting my work within the community. The publication was designed, published, and content taken from my website, without my assistance. When I found out they may be doing this, my team did our due diligence, including numerous phone calls, to see if we needed to ask the publication to not include the highlight of me. Because it was print media which had done this before for other entities, we were assured this was fine. Because of this, it should not considered a campaign expenditure or in-kind contribution. As requested in the FPPC email, we will be sending all information regarding this allegation to the FPPC for their investigation in full compliance and cooperation. We are sharing this publicly because I value full transparency. It is unfortunate that during political campaigns, another candidate, whom I have known for some time, would not just come to me and speak to me face to face about his concerns, but instead make false allegations “anonymously” to the FPPC, and once addressed and clarified, make those same allegations on social media. My integrity is of the utmost importance to me and my family and I will not be bullied by these types of negative campaign tactics, especially days before an election. In full transparency, I have posted a page on my website labeled, Featured Media, listing the many online and print publications which have featured me, both during and before the campaign. I have also posted my 460s (a form all candidates must complete to report expenses and donations) from 2023-2024 on my website, although all candidate 460s are public on the City’s website. “When they go low…”
